In the late 1990s, the Pottsville Republican-Herald endeavored to publish stories about many of the coal mining operations that once dotted the ravaged landscape of Schuylkill County.

These articles used information and photographs gleaned from the collections of the Reading Anthracite Company’s Historical Library.

That information has been put online at “The Coal Castles of Schuylkill County,” a basic webpage that has links to resources about coal mining in the Southern Coal Field.
