UNDER THE NOSE OF THE FORTRESS

The big bomb, guided by Corp. Joseph E. Law, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., is lifted from the trailer to a cradle.

The boys who handle these high explosives have hard jobs with long and odd hours, mostly at night in black-out conditions. Picture shows loading for a less frequent, late afternoon operation.


We found this image in 2024 while researching Coal Region airmen who served with the 8th Air Force during World War II as we watched the Apple TV+ miniseries “Masters of the Air.”
